Medusa: Goddess of Transformation

Medusa- Beautiful and Powerful Snake goddess of transformation

“You are an agent of GREAT CHANGE on the face of this world!”

Happy November! Now is the time of transformation. Like the Snake Goddess we shed our former skin of lack thinking and just “good enough” to the miraculous abundance which is yours to create!

You are a light. You sparkle and shine like a thousand diamonds in the dark cheek of the night sky. You are a butterfly flitting from flower to flower with the legacy of hope and love. The echo of your heart beats loudly. God sees you and is waiting for you to accept the beauty and majesty of the power of your own creating ability.

“You do not ACHIEVE greatness. You ARE greatness!”

In ancient myths and legends the Snake Goddess always elicits fear and opposition.  Apollo cut off Tiamet’s head,  in the Bible Archangel Michael destroyed it, and Eve succumbed to it’s seduction and brought death to mankind. But is this the truth? Is the Serpent God/dess something to be feared?

What does it represent?

In the Mithraic mysteries, God was represented standing authoritatively within the coils of a serpent twined around Him about seven times. Mithra represented the sun. But what did the Serpent represent? In the Bible though the Serpent has a dubious beginning, supposedly, and an even more sinister end, there is a moment in the Book of Exodus that the Serpent becomes a prophetic symbol for Jesus Christ. In Egypt the Snake Goddess Wadjet is shown during the unification period of both Upper and Lower regions as a uraeus which was a head ornament: either with the body of Wadjet atop the head, or as a crown encircling the head; this indicated Wadjet’s protection and reinforced the pharaoh’s claim over the land. The entwined serpent also represents the cosmic dna and structure of the universe. Could this possibly be the Holy Spirit Goddess, hidden in symbolism?  Wadjet

Wikipedia says.”As the patron goddess, she was associated with the land and depicted as a snake-headed woman or a snake—usually an Egyptian cobra, a venomous snake common to the region; sometimes she was depicted as a woman with two snake heads and, at other times, a snake with a woman’s head. Her oracle was in the renowned temple in Per-Wadjet that was dedicated to her worship and gave the city its name. This oracle may have been the source for the oracular tradition that spread to Greece from Egypt.

Were the Pythoness oracles, Greek sibyls and Hebrew Prophetesses such as Miriam sister of Moses, a Wadjet High Priestess?  As I read more about Wadjet she seems to be involved in every aspect of deity in a similar way that Ma’at is the foundation of the law of Egypt; Wadjet is the “kingdom” itself.  Did not Jesus Christ preach about inheriting the “kingdom” of God? There are at least 70 kingdom of God quotes made by Jesus Christ in the New Testament alone!

Mark 1:15 – And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
and my favorite: Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Why should we seek first the Kingdom? Who or what is the Kingdom of God? Heaven? Actually, no! The Kingdom is the Holy Spirit. God does not dwell per se in a city or mansion on a hill. GOD IS EVERYTHING. And the Kingdom is the very MOLECULE and ATOM and BREATH of God. She is Wisdom. She is understanding. She is the Kingdom and He is the High Priest that lovingly serves Her and fills her with Her children.

Proverbs 8:15-21

15By me kings reign

and rulers issue decrees that are just;

16by me princes govern,

and nobles—all who rule on earth.b

17I love those who love me,

and those who seek me find me.

18With me are riches and honor,

enduring wealth and prosperity.

19My fruit is better than fine gold;

what I yield surpasses choice silver.

20I walk in the way of righteousness,

along the paths of justice,

21bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me

and making their treasuries full.

So what does this mean?  Well I think Jesus summed it up best when He said,” Wisdom is proved right by HER children.” (Luke 7:35)

So how does Wad jet the Serpent Goddess of the Kingdom and the Holy Spirit represent the Serpent Goddess of transformation?  Life is cyclical and the Dark Phase of a cycle is the closure phase between the destruction of the old and the creation of the new. Like the Wheel of the Year itself or the moon’s cycles which govern woman’s moon blood time. There is a period of cleansing, and renewal; a sloughing off of the old outer shell to prepare the seed of Life once again. Just as Yule transits to Ostara, such is the revolving door of the evolution of womankind. This transformative process can be equated to the Dark Moon or Shadow aspect of Goddess, whose very pathos of destruction at the hands of Life becomes the fertile, dark soil of new beginnings. Like Inanna, who went to Hell and back, and faced Her own personal Medusa self to rebirth her own power. I too am going this phase as I write this blog. I have learned to accept myself and not hide behind my maiden visage any longer. It is time to claim my Crone power and not be afraid! I must learn to give compassion first, to myself, as I make many blunders in my transitional state. And I must accept that “hiding” in the dark is part and parcel of facing my “shadow” self. I, like Inanna, must shed my skin and hang it painfully upon the nail of youth. The indestructible energy that is transformed from matter to energy and back to matter IS the primordial Goddess in Her entirety who is immanent in all and everything. This dark moon phase is symbolic of the DESTRUCTION of the Serpent.

Death and Resurrection

Most Christians just don’t get it. They can not connect the Goddess to the principle of life, death and resurrection. However the Goddess is the one that first represented it. The Serpent’s transformation ability is endless. But because of the ignorance of the people and subjugation of women in the patriarchal society the Mother Serpent had to give of herself and allow herself to die so that we could see the truth. Death of self, of ego, of what “matters” is the beginning of transformation and self-renewal.  Eve was beguiled by the Serpent to find Her own truth as Goddess. So that meant she had to undergo Death to transform and BIRTH LIFE.

Jesus Christ is the seed of that transformation. And He is what? He is the GREAT SERPENT that swallowed the other serpents!   This truth is an allegory to awaken the knowledge deep within us that we are transformative and life creating beings. We are simply locked in our physical form because of our own choice. As we open our minds and begin a dialogue with our true God like selves we must descend like Inanna, metamorphosis like Medusa and transform like Tiamat. Once women begin to own their own descent phase and break free of their ego selves they will learn the Laws of the Kingdom and begin to at last possess a magickal life!

The First Law

The Law of Attraction: It’s attraction alright, negative attraction. People that are focused on their “lack” — lack of money, relationship, and well-being — tend to keep up a cycle of lack — because that’s what they are looking at, thinking about, obsessing on, or believing to be their bad luck or unchangeable fate. We attract not only what we think about, but more importantly that we attract what we feel strong emotions and desires about. They emphasize that you can’t bring in the abundance you’re seeking if your thoughts are programmed with negative and limiting beliefs.

An alcoholic, a drug addict, a gambling addict, or any other kind of addiction — is absolutely focused on LACK when in the grip of addiction. There is always the anxiety, the fear, that there won’t be enough. The bottle is getting near empty and there won’t be any more! The drugs may run out! The more the addict focuses on lack, which gets programmed by the addiction, the more lack and fear they experience, going to desperate lengths at times to get the fix needed. The Law of Attraction does provide some insight into both the nature of addiction, and the pathway out it: a spiritual path with a mind focused more on what we have than what we don’t have; more on what’s right and good; and more on loving oneself and doing the right thing from a place of love and appreciation for life.

Law in Action

Make a list of all the bad things about what you want to change–like how it’s negatively affecting your life, your family, your job, your health, etc. Write it all down.

Now, make a separate list of all the good things about a more positive choice, and all you can look forward to.

Look at your list of bad things. These are the things you don’t want in your life, so you are going to throw them away and stop focusing on them.

Throw the bad things list away. Rip it up, burn it, whatever feels right. Just get rid of it.

Look at your good things list. These are the things you DO want in your life.

Focus on this good things list. Post it up where you can see it every day. Read it, study it, memorize it, think about it and really feel it.

Take 10 minutes every day to focus on the good things. See and feel yourself enjoying the kinds of relationships you want, the job you want, the health you want…you get the picture.

The more you focus on the positive, instead of the reasons you are avoiding the addiction, the easier it becomes to stop.

One more thing—make sure you have supportive people in your life who understand what you are trying to do, who can encourage you to focus on the positives instead of bringing you down. Having a support system is extremely valuable when trying to stop bad habits. Your mind will try to “trick” you into going back to the old ways—that’s when you look at your “good things” list, and call a friend who will remind you that you can do it!

Your old ways of thinking have become habits that have built strong connections in your brain. Create new connections by thinking new thoughts and strengthen them with frequent use!

For you to be completely successful, you must replace negative thought patterns with positive ones. The more they focus on the positive and the more empowered they feel to BE THE CHANGE and not just TALK ABOUT the change they will sustain recovery. You get more of what you believe you already have. What you feel you deserve and what you believe about yourself are the keys to life. Creating a reward system for small accomplishments is key to beginning that process  because first WE change our perception of them as not fixing something “bad” about us but empowering ourselves and making the choice to change their behavior.

The Change begins with us!

Magick can inspire us to soar to great heights but only if we keep our mind free of the clutter and sludge negativity brings.  Transform with the Serpent Goddess that lies dormant within your psyche. Embrace the change no matter how painful and you will awaken new and more powerful than you could ever imagine!

If we utilize the Law of Attraction and celebrate our accomplishments it will lead to more successes. We get more of what we believe and feel we achieve.

Love Ostara!  Rainbow blessings and moonbeam kisses!

This is the key time for us to dive deeply into the inner pain, death and darkness that we–individually and collectively–deny , avoid and numb ourselves to; for it is only when we walk courageously into the darkness that we find the light that is the Self. Life…death…light…darkness…all turns of the same wheel…

    1. Yes Toni I absolutely agree! it is time to face our shadow selves and reclaim the BEAUTY of our transformation. Thank you for all your appreciation!
