It’s the season of love and giving, sleigh rides and mistletoe!!! Let us harness this never ending circle of power and infinite love in our Yule celebrations whether in a partnership or single. If you are single harness this sacred energy to honor yourself and build a mastery of love and union with God/Goddess as your own sacred divine partner. Dance gaily and with joyful celebration with your divine “husband or wife”. It is in the celebration and gratitude of love that we manifest love from the spiritual realm to the physical.
But of course, how romantic and exciting Christmas can be for lovers! I have gathered some very unique ideas to satisfy that romantic itch during the Yule season. A winter altar is very important to start your yule off right and also create an ambiance for love and cheerful giving!
Evergreens such as ivy and holly are traditionally displayed/ Holly is a tree of Mars, and ivy is a plant of Saturn. Traditionally, the two bound together were given to newly married couples. Display evergreen around your altar and lay out winter love ingredients between the Holly and Ivy wreaths. If you are like me and do this on a budget it is perfectly fine to substitute artificial for the real thing, though if you can get a sprig or two of the real thing it makes this especially nice.
Ingredients of Love for Yule
Almonds-Through antiquity, almonds were regarded as fertility symbols. The aroma of almond supposedly arouses passion in females — or so thought the poets and scribes. Almond oil is used frequently as a carrier oil for love spells. The scientists say that almonds provide high doses of vitamin E, magnesium and even fiber.
vanilla pods-Vanilla magically boosts your attraction power and the smell is said to be sexually arousing to men. Pieces of the fresh bean can be added to love sachets (like to scent bath water of your bedding) or in love oils.
Licorice root- This root is very soporific and is quite calming and soothing. Carry licorice root when wanting to ensure a smooth and trouble-free relationship.
Mistletoe-It is a favorite around this time of year! The tradition of using Mistletoe for affectionate kissing stems from ancient orgiastic fertility practices, where the berries of the mistletoe, especially when grown upon the Oak tree, were considered part of the Oak King’s productive energy or semen. It is a very robust and phallic symbol.
Yule Garland of Love
You will need:
a length of strong twine
floristry wires (try Michael’s or Hobby Lobby)
evergreens of holly, ivy, pine branches, mistletoe
red and white berries
red and green floristry ribbon
(Mistletoe berries are poisonous so do not take them internally and if you have small children afoot I suggest you use artificial ones, in fact all of this can be done with artificial replicas if on a budget)
Gather up bunches of evergreen and fasten them with floristy wire. Make enough bunches to cover the length of twine you have chosen. Using floristy wire attach each one to the twine. When the length is completely covered use floristry wire to add bunches of red berries and white berries at intervals. Also add the pine cones. Tie ribbons along the length and fasten them in place with the floristy wires.
While you are weaving your magickal garland, say the following invocation:
“Like God and Goddess, King and Queen
bound by eternal love eternally,
True Love that shall never part
Honored here with a joyful heart!”
This is wonderful chanted softly and gaily in a song form especially while dancing in a circle with these small garlands on your head. You can make two and intertwine them each in two loops making and infinity sign. The infinity sign has power of eternal love and togetherness.
Dried spices of Venus, such as Allspice, Marjoram, Oregano and Lemon verbena as well as red candles enhance your lovely Yule love spell and can be used to make a wonderfully scented sachet, don’t forget your vanilla bean!
The Yule colors of red and white and green come from these wonderful traditions of love and fertility and is now an integral part of Christmas! Red berries and white berries represent the union of female(red) and the male (white) which you see on the suit of Santa Claus. The red berries symbolize the blood of woman and the white berries symbolize the seminal fluid of man. I know this may sound a little icky but remember in ancient times the blood and the semen were especially mysterious aspects of creation that to them seemed very God like. It is my belief that in devaluing these attributes of mankind has caused us to lose sight of the beauty and power of our own creation. In honoring these sacred and divine aspects of who we are we cease to become mere animals and more like Divine beings birthing love upon our planet.
Whether Christian or Pagan one can celebrate the divine marriage of love and joy, God and Goddess and the sacred season or rebirth and renewal. Just as love and sex bring the fruit of a child, or the power of the Holy Spirit and God birthing a Son to redeem the world, we can rejoice in many small and loving ways to give thanks and bring more love and joy into our lives!
Blessed Yule and Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays to your family from mine!
